How To Install Windows 7 For Free Usb

With my new Acer 3700 Revo not having a CD/DVD, I need to install windows 7 of a USB drive. This guide will show you how to do just that. Your need a Windows 7 PC and access to windows 7 source media. and a blank Pen Drive of at least 4 GB ( I’m using a 16GB).

In Windows 7, hit the Windows key + R. Type msconfig, and hit Enter. Click to the Boot tab at the top. Click 'Windows Setup ( windows)', and hit Delete. Click 'Exit without restart'. And lastly, delete the ‘Sources’ folder from your hard drive root (this will free up 2-3gb). I hope this helps some people out. Windows 7 comes with a free System Recovery disc that contains 5 valuable tools to help you fix common startup problems and etc. Although it seems to only allow you to create it on a CD or DVD, but we have found a method on how to install the Windows 7 System Recovery into USB. Besides copying Windows 7 onto USB drive from DVD/CD using Command Prompt, you can also use Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool, a free utility that will automatically make a bootable USB flash drive using a Windows 7/8/10 ISO image file. Simply download the tool, choose the ISO file and USB drive, then the Wizard will do everything for you.

Doing it in DOS Step by Step guide.

You have 2 options: A) Use a third-party utility to create the USB from a Windows 7 disc or ISO. Rufus is a favourite of mine and there are plenty of guides online showing how to use it.

Insert you windows 7 DVD and note down your DVD drive letter (from Windows Explore or My Computer).

In my case it’s D:

Plug in you usb stick (best to use a blank one, or backup you data that is currently on it)
Go to Start menu > All programs > Accessories, right click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.

Then Type List Disk (and note down the disk number of you USB still (It should be the smallest size, in my case Disk 1).

Now type the following

(Format will take a while)

Once the Format is complete type the following.

Now type D: (or what ever letter is assined to you DVD drive, as per step 1). cd boot BOOTSECT.EXE /NT60 F:

F: being the Drive letter my USB stick (check in explore for yours).

Finally Type

Again making sure that you use your drive letter (D: being cd from F: being usb stick /E just mean all files and folders).

Once the copy is compete (about 10-15 mins), that should be it. Whatever device your installing it on, make sure it boots from usb, pop the pen in, and power on the machines.
